Adult Ministries

We have a multitude of opportunities for adults of all ages. Whether you are recently graduated, recently divorced, new parents, seasoned parents, retired or whatever, Shepherdstown has a place for you.

All adult ministry programs are currently on hold due to COVID-19. Please see the church monthly newsletter for updates regarding church activities, and consider participating in virtual worship opportunities on the website homepage - including weekly sermons, hymns, and devotionals.

Adult Sunday School Classes

Adult Sunday School Classes: Visitors are always welcome in any class. Please see an information desk volunteer in the Lobby on Sunday morning if you need directions to find a specific classroom.

The Elective Class, is currently joining the Bible Explorers Class studying the book "Invitation”.

The LIFE Class meets in Classroom 9, the LIFE Class holds discussions tied directly to current events.

The Helping Hand Class meets in Classroom 11, and uses the International Lessons series.

Bible Explorers Class to Study “Invitation” The Bible Explorers Class is beginning a study by Seedbed Publishing called “Invitation.” This is a Ten Week video & discussion course that invites daily Bible reading and moves participants through the Bible (only some high points of course) in a way that gives a big picture view. Books are $11 but will be provided for any who wish to be part of the course but find the cost a problem. Please contact the church office by email or phone ASAP to register. Sessions begin on September 8. Class meets Sunday mornings at 9:30 in Fellowship Hall.

Wednesday Morning Bible Study will resume on Sept. 18th. (Please note the date change from Sept. 11)We meet at 9:30 in room 9. We will begin a new study on the Apostle Paul. The new books will be handed out at the first meeting. The first week or two will not be from the book, but will be a look at "Paul the Person". Everyone is welcome."

Never Alone Support Group: Mary Rowland

This group of singles of any age meets once a month for fellowship, encouragement, and support. New members are always warmly welcomed.

Faithlife Team: We are always looking for the following: - Individuals to assist with building the Sunday Worship Services with the Video Projection System. We are also looking for the creative eye, capturing the moments of events at the Church. Photos, Videos are a key ingredient to building and sharing the word of God through our vision. No age requirements at all! Interested? Please contact the church office if you are interested.

This is a group of senior members of the church who meet regularly to plan and attend functions together throughout the year. Through this ministry seniors will be able to:

  • meet other seniors

  • participate in social activities

  • pray for and minister to one another

Prayer Shawl Ministry: Church Office

The prayer shawl team meets regularly to knit and crochet together. Our prayer shawls are prepared with love and prayer for those in need. After final preparation, they are blessed before they are delivered to the sick, those recuperating from surgery, new mothers, college students or military away from home and many others. If you would like to become part of our prayer shawl ministry by making shawls or providing yarn, please contact the church office or see the church calendar for meeting dates.

Prayer Shaw

The Prayer Team is a group of people led by Deb Kenes that meet once a month to pray together over church groups and concerns and current issues around the world. All information shared is kept confidential and anyone is welcome to participate. The Prayer Team meets on the third Monday of each month at 12:30 PM in the parlor.

The group will provide fellowship and support to one another as well as serve as an outreach to others in the community.
